The Importance of Women and Entrepreneurship

Throughout our history, women have been able to accomplish amazing things, regardless of the challenges they faced. They’ve fought norms and standards set for them and rose above stereotypes to powerfully impact our world for the better. March is dedicated to showing appreciation to these powerful women and showcasing all their amazing achievements, as Women’s History Month. In honor of this, we are going to discuss strong woman entrepreneurs from the past and present.

Madam C.J. Walker may be one of the first names that comes to mind when we think of women’s entrepreneurship. Through her homemade hair care line, she was able to overcome many obstacles and difficult situations in her life to reach her point of success. She created a product that not only she could benefit from, but many others. Because of this, she became the first American woman to become a self-made millionaire. Her impact on women and their place in entrepreneurship and business is undeniable. She, as well as many others, has paved the way for modern day women entrepreneurs.

Women from present day, such as Whitney Wolfe Herd, the CEO of Bumble, who has risen to fame and recognition due to her willingness to stand up for creating a dating app that was different, unique, and safer for female users. Even right here in Flint, entrepreneurs such as Kiara Tyler, creator of Kalm clothing (@kalm.clothing), Jalondria Dhrubo, founder of J. Nicole Custom (@jnicolecustom), Nicole Rumbold, Owner of MI Home Real Estate Co. (@mihomerealestateco) and many more are all fantastic examples of women innovators in our community that work hard and won’t let anyone get in the way of their grind!

We strive to continue to encourage these amazing women in our community, and all over the world, to keep doing all the amazing work they are capable of achieving. We appreciate all the powerful women of our past who have helped us to get here. Let us continue to up-build and support our women entrepreneurs and business owners, continuing to pave the way for a stronger, smarter, and inclusive future.
