As summer 2019 continues and the days get hotter, traffic at the Flint Farmers’ Market is rising. The Flint Farmers’ Market originally opened in 1905 as a very limited market with only a few vendors. Since then, the Farmers’ Market has grown quite a bit with approximately 51 vendors. The Farmers’ Market is known for its fresh produce and family-owned eateries. Many people enjoy buying fresh produce and eating delicious lunches with family and friends, while local business owners share their homemade creations. These creations are made by local entrepreneurs, who all started with just an idea. Through dedicating time and putting in hard work, these business owners were able to pursue their passions.
The Farmers’ Market houses businesses that range from gemstone jewelry to smokey barbecue. One example is J. Deans, a small family-owned sausage and jerky booth. The idea for J. Deans was born in 1984 when James Dean began to produce smoked jerky and sausage. The Dean family started to cater for various events, generating name recognition for their sausage. Soon, the Dean’s recognized their growth potential and opened an eatery in the Flint Farmers Market. By simply pursuing their passion for making food, they have now made it their livelihood. Many of the vendors at the Farmers’ Market have a similar story to J. Deans. They all started out with an idea they were passionate about and utilized the Farmers’ Market to turn it into a successful business.
If you are looking for a fun place to visit this summer, be sure to stop by the Flint Farmers’ Market to check out these local shops, experience all the fresh foods and unique creations being offered.
